Update on the algae condition on Fairview Lake

Submitted by: Michael Johnson

We have had two sets of testing performed on the blue-green algae in Fairview Lake. So far the results have been NO TOXINS detected in the water. Because we have not detected toxins, there have been no postings for Fairview Lake by the state board of health.

The algae bloom now appears to be starting to dissipate.

You may have seen that Blue Lake has closed their waters to swimming as a precaution. As far we know, they have not yet had their water analyzed for toxins by a lab.

Since we can’t test Fairview Lake everywhere, it would still be prudent to be cautious with your pets and children. If you have seen green scum in your area, it might be best to stay out of that area for a while longer. Boating and fishing is still OK.

July Fourth Parade Winners

We had a great 4th of July Parade on the lake this year. The boats were festooned with decorations. Everyone enjoyed the event whether you were participating or viewing. Craig Reuter won first place for his “Think Pink” entry. Rick and Dixie Buck took a second place for their pirate themed boat. Nikos and Alex Andronikos tied with Dan Parshall for third place with a red, white and blue patriotic theme. Hope to see you next year with more creative, floating marvels on the next July 4th!

Annual Poker Run a Winner!

The annual Poker Run was a lot of fun as always! The Scruggs took first place with a full house. Second place went to the Dicks with two pairs and the Goetzes won third place with three jacks. Thanks to all of the folks who helped pull off another fun summer event!
Don’t forget to come out for the lake floats on Saturdays at 6:00 to whenever. It’s a great way to keep in touch with old friends and meet new ones. Just bring your own beverage and finger food to share…simple or complex…it’s up to you!

See you on the lake!

Algae Update

Submitted by: Mike Johnson

FLPOA has obtained preliminary lab analysis results for the current blue/green algae bloom. As previously announced, this variety of blue/green is known to be potentially toxic. The lab reports, however, did not detect toxins in our recent sample. We are cautiously optimistic with these results. Residents should remain watchful to keep children and pets from having exposure to the lake water. FLPOA will continue to analyze samples until this outbreak has ended.
